Salary: $0.00 /hour

Internship Description: The Horticulture Intern will learn all aspects of plant care and work closely with the Director of Horticulture and the Horticultural Specialists to maintain healthy plants and a rewarding exhibit for our visitors. Daily activities include watering, pest/disease scouting and pruning. Plant care takes many forms and you will participate in any project development that is ongoing. You will learn proper quarantine rules and regulations and meticulous record keeping skills. This is an unpaid internship. While we cannot promise a paid position after your internship, we take pride in cultivating growth within our company – both the plants and our employees and interns!

Internship Requirements: Working on a Bachelor’s Degree in biology, plant science, agronomy or related field or be a high school student (at least 18 years old) interested in a career in biology. A desire for hands-on plant work is a must. Knowledge of plant care (how to water, fertilize, prune, etc) is not needed, as this is something we will train you in. You will also learn how to identify and control common plant pests. Interns will learn how to work well with others but also be independent in your decision-making. Must be able to work in the heat of the greenhouse and be able to perform strenuous tasks like shoveling, lifting boxes and transplanting.

About The Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion: We are a new, start-up museum located in Northeast Philly. We strive to provide an educational and inspirational environment to both children and adults alike with immersive and hands-on exhibits. As a start-up, we are growing fast, always adding new exhibits and educational materials and we want you to be a part of this. We are looking to mentor undergraduate and high school interns in horticultural practices in an ornamental greenhouse setting.

Please submit a resume or CV! We look forward to hearing from you!
