We have a great animal care staff that is excited to share their expertise and knowledge with you about all things bugs. You might even have the chance to hold a rose-haired tarantula or bearded dragon. With our educational talks, animal handling and crafts, you’ll be sure to have a thrilling adventure in the Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion.

Arachnid Encounters

You may think they’re creepy crawlers, but once you’ve experienced the fascinating world of arachnids, you’ll think otherwise! Our staff will be there to teach you about the eight-legged creatures as well as how to properly handle and care for them. Hang around and you might even get the chance to hold one!

Rattling on with Reptiles

Did you know that reptiles are more than 300 million years old? You’ll learn all sorts of interesting facts about our cold-blooded friends during our Ratting on with Reptiles chat. From bearded dragons to leopard geckos, our animal keeper will showcase one of our scaly creatures which will end with you getting to handle one…if you dare!

Bug Talks

We’re an insectarium, so yeah, you could say we’re experts in all things bugs. Our Bug Talks offer you a closer look at the featured insect of the week. We’ll provide an educational talk filled with interesting facts that will come in handy for your next science test or a question on Jeopardy.

Glowing Scorpions

Scorpions may be considered the most dangerous predators in the world, but we promise that ours won’t hurt you. While you may know that scorpions have eight legs and a stinger, you may not know that they can reflect ultraviolet light and appear to be glowing. Don’t believe us? We’ll show you!

Roach Races

We’re off to the races! While you may know that cockroaches play an important role in their ecosystems, you may not know of their prowess on the racetrack! Come see for yourself as we set several species of roaches against each other in a race to the finish line!

Coloring & Crafts

Now that you’ve seen our diverse collection of arthropods, you can spend time recreating your favorite critters and creatures. We’ll have markers, colored pencils, crayons, construction paper and more for you to draw your own version of a tailless whipspider or crested gecko. Leave it to your imagination and create your own SUPERBUG!
